The time that it takes to complete the process varies from state to state. It can also vary depending on the time of the year. Some states have a shorter window for processing during the off-season when they aren’t as busy. One way to streamline the process is to know how soon you can accomplish each step in the licensing process. For instance, it may take weeks for a completed background check. This may be something to complete as soon as you are able to. Sending for official transcripts and test scores as soon as they are available will also save you time.

“TEFL” is the acronym for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, or simply, English language instruction for non-native speakers. Also known as Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or English Language Teaching (ELT), the field of TEFL/TESOL is one of the fastest growing educational fields in the world, presenting thousands of excellent professional opportunities in all corners of the globe to native and fluent English speakers who achieve their TEFL/TESOL certification. These terms are essentially interchangeable in the international English teaching market, our certifications list both terms.
The level of experience required for online jobs varies based on the type of job. Most sales reps do not require a college degree, but some companies that sell specialized equipment ask that applicants have a degree in a specific field. Many online writers and editors have a high school diploma or its equivalent, but some companies require that writers have a degree in journalism, communications or a similar field.
The company will provide you with guidelines to use when evaluating search results, and tell you what keywords to search for results review. The pay can actually be decent for these jobs, but you’re still an independent contractor and how much work there is available varies. If this sounds like something you’d like to do, check out my post with everything you need to know. Then see if these companies are hiring:
Hi there! Please read on for some important information about booking, and about how I can help you... First things first: at the moment, I am working with students who are intermediate or above. If you're a beginner, unfortunately I'm not the best teacher for you right now. If you're interested in working with me, please book a 30-minute trial class first. Also, I would love to hear about your language goals (or anything else you think I should know), so feel free to send me a message when you book. I've been teaching English since 2005, and over the years I've helped hundreds of students build, improve, strengthen, and perfect their English language skills. I emphasize: critical thinking, a positive attitude, an open mind, risk taking, and curiosity. We focus on exactly what you need for your specific goals, and I don't waste your time on things that aren't practical. Finally, I take notes for you during class so you can relax and focus on speaking! These are NOT just quick notes in the chat screen: I offer all of my students a PDF document at the end of each session, which includes errors and corrections, vocabulary, and pronunciation notes from that class.
Every service is different, but most follow the same basic model. Once you’ve registered, you simply select the topic and grade level you need help with, and the system will give you a list of qualified tutors. From there, you can view a detailed profile of each, send an introductory email, submit a question, or schedule a future session. If you’re using an on-demand service, the system will automatically pair you with an available qualified tutor and drop you right into a live session.
If you are having issues with your exams then you need a test preparation tutor. They will be able to give you tools that you can use now and in your other classes. For the remainder of your time in college, you are going to have to take exams so it behooves you to come up with a plan. Your tutor will help you organize all of your notes and better understand anything that is going over your head. While doing they will also make sure that the lessons are amusing to you so that the information sticks with you. The better time you are having while studying the higher your chances are of remembering the information for the exam and later on down the road. A solid understanding of chemistry can go a really long way, so you do not want to miss out on anything. You are already enrolled in the class, you might as well take full advantage. One of our tutors will help you get the most out of chemistry so that you can get your grade. They do not want you to become reliant on them, but to develop skills that make you a stronger and more independent student.

Now she tutors online, and teaches gen chem lecture at Mt. St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles.

As much as it pains me to write this, my advice is to find a different career. It's not that being a professor is so bad--there are many good things about the job, including a certain amount of flexibility of schedule and the experience of going to work and learning alongside colleagues and students each day--but the job market is just. so. bad. Odds are that you will labor for 6 years to obtain a PhD in English, all the while earning very little money and going into debt, and when you graduate you will be unable to get a tenure-line job--even if you are a gifted teacher, even if you are a talented writer, even if you are a superstar. If you do get a tenure-line job you will find yourself working long hours but earning far less money than do others with advanced degrees, and you will find that the realities of the profession are out of line with what you imagine the profession to be. I once believed that I would have the leisure to think and to write--that's what professors do, right? Not so much. When I was much younger I even imagined that I would spend some time each day sitting under a tree and reading a book. I'm serious! I thought that. My life bears zero resemblance to the fantasy. The ground under the trees is always a little wet, and there's too much of a glare on my laptop to work outside.

Good programs understand this and provide their own tech support staff. This resource is also available to professors, who will want immediate help should their PowerPoint presentations crash during class time. Removing this burden from teachers allows them to focus on their lessons, while students can rest easy knowing there’s help for any issues they may encounter.

The overall salaries of English teachers are ultimately affected by their level of experience and education; years spent teaching full-time; and their geographic location. For instance, the BLS identifies the following states (with annual mean salaries) as being the top-paying locations for postsecondary English and literature teachers: New York ($89,670), Alaska ($87,200), California ($85,920), New Hampshire ($77,080), and Connecticut ($75,990).
Hi, my name's Art, I started teaching ESL 34 years ago in Salamanca Spain, then continued part-time while also teaching Spanish as a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University where I received an M.A. in Hispanic Literature in 1988. I left another career about 7 years ago when my Venezuelan wife and I moved back to her home country, and there I also happily returned to my first career of teaching ESL. I began teaching there at the university level at the Universidad Arturo Michelena, but then realized I felt called to tutoring one student at a time. A few days ago, at the urging of the US embassy in Venezuela, my wife and I returned to the USA. The good news for students is that we have 100-122 Mega speed internet so the audio and video are of excellent quality! ---Many of my students were/are preparing for TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, NATO, or Trinity exams etc. so I have experience helping there. I got to module 3 of 5 with the ICAL TEFL institute based in London for certification in TEFL, but then realized that those courses are aimed primarily at classroom teaching methods, and have little relevance to one-on-one tutoring. If you want to know my qualifications, I suggest reading the comments of my students. They are the best judges of tutor quality. If you need help with exam preparation, CV editing, job interviews, pronunciation, presentations, etc. I'd be glad to help. Best of luck to you in your English studies, and remember never get discouraged. The key is hard work, and lots of patience and determination. Cheers!

BLS statistics reflect that professionals with a master’s degree have a greater chance for promotions and an increase in salaries. This is particularly true for teachers. The difference in salary between a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree for a novice teacher is $3,000 annually. After 10 years of experience, salaries increase to an average of $4,500, according to BLS data.
Gain licensure to teach. Obtaining a state-issued teaching license or certificate is a requirement for accepting a teaching position at a public school. Every state has requirements that teachers must meet in order to become licensed. In New York State, a middle school English teacher must complete at least 30 semester hours of subject-specific content (such as 10 semester-long English courses) and in some states, such as California, teachers must complete at least 32 semester hours of subject-specific content.

Curiosity is great for learning about the world – and when you make your curiosity into work, you get to call it research and charge a fee! If you enjoy just researching and learning new things, you can find remote jobs that will pay you to either do research and compile data or answer specific questions their clients have. You can do general research or get hyper-specific – for example, in the right location, you could become a court researcher.
Candidates are also encouraged to take the Next Step by enrolling in the Teaching Online Practicum where they will create a capstone project focusing on their lessons and skills learned throughout the entire Teaching Online certificate program. This course will focus on students progress and practical application to current or prospective work opportunities. Students will work collaboratively with an advisor before submitting their final project. During the application process, a prospective candidate should consider a possible project or course they will build throughout the program. The project or course will allow the student to apply learned tools and demonstrate results in delivering curriculum online.
The company provides online continuing education courses to schools, libraries, companies, educators, and individuals. It hires instructional writers to author courses on a variety of subjects. Most states require at least a bachelor’s degree when you first seek a state certification or license. Each state will have a list of accredited institutions that are qualified to award a degree appropriate for licensing. As you look through your choice of schools, you will want to cross reference them with the State Board of Education’s approved list of schools (completing a degree program that isn’t accredited can result in disqualification for licensing).
To benefit our learning community, existing instructors are offered ongoing training and professional development opportunities. These opportunities include (but are not limited to) required training for system and learning resource upgrades and additions. Our Faculty Training & Development team regularly offers a variety of both live and recorded web events for faculty to learn more about SNHU initiatives, engage with representatives from other departments, and explore new ways to engage with students.
The Professional Learning Community (PLC) provides potential teacher leaders and administrators with a structure for continuing professional growth and information and activities aligned with best practices and current research on initiatives that support the Louisiana Accountability System, the School Improvement Process, and the Standards for School Principals in Louisiana.
Fay — I have a few posts up that list ways to get fast cash, but if you’re looking for bill money, those might not help much because the things I listed there are mostly good for gas money, pizza money, etc. Just a little extra. I know that with the phone positions there’s often a few weeks or more worth of wait time while you’re getting a background check done, training, and so forth. The sales positions (things like Helios, which has actually received negative feedback lately from some of my readers) could probably have you up and working and making money quickly. I do have a post on this blog covering Helios. But not everyone likes sales, so that may not be the route you’d want to take.
Without good English-language skills, students can’t succeed in English class, or any of their other classes. If you’re thinking of becoming an English teacher, you’ll find opportunities to teach all kinds of literary genres, including classic literary texts, creative nonfiction, contemporary fiction, film and web-based media. One week you may engage your students in a Shakespearean play and the next you might instruct them on argumentative essay writing.

Lots of people are creating videos on YouTube as a hobby. But some are earning money, and some are earning a lot of money. You can create videos yourself, promote them, and then monetize them through Google Adsense. You’ll get paid every time someone clicks on an ad on your video. The more clicks, the more you’ll make. If you get several videos going, you’ll be earning ad revenue from various sources.
'Module 7: Engaging and Motivating Students' explores various strategies for engaging and motivating your students in a range of different online learning scenarios. It discusses the important roles that curriculum design, activity structure, the relevance of the chosen technology, and effective time management play in creating an enthusiasm for learning in your students. 'Module 8: Evaluation Strategies' examines the importance of evaluating your online teaching practice to ensure that it is effective, and to give you an opportunity to constantly improve. This is especially important when you are first developing an online teaching practice, or when you are trying something new for the first time. We will explore an evaluation strategy based upon four reflective angles: self reflection, peer observations, student feedback, and theory. The module also introduces the concept of learning analytics as an informative tool to enable up to the minute evaluation of your online class.
Online classes have traditionally been asynchronous, meaning students engage with the course materials on their own time. But now there are programs that feature live sessions, where the teacher and students meet online for a live-streamed lecture and/or discussion. While this can be a huge advantage for students who stand to benefit from in-class discussions with other students, live lectures and real-time interactions, it can be overwhelming for a teacher who’s conducting an online class for the first time.

A state-issued teaching certificate or license is generally required to become a middle school teacher. However, some private schools do not require a teaching credential as a job condition. Certification and licensing requirements for middle school teachers vary from state to state. Teachers usually must take professional development courses as a condition of certification.

How to Get It: Sylvan Learning (Tutoring.SylvanLearning.com), Tutor.com, TutorVista.com and Tutorzilla (Tutorzilla.com) all offer a good cross section of the kinds of remote-based tutoring jobs out there, and they all have great reputations with students and teachers. Since you will be working with children, you can expect a background check before you are hired.
Time management: Whether you want a part-time or full-time online job, working from home can create a load of benefits especially for those with children at home. Managing your time may not always be an option at jobs where your physical presence is needed but online jobs can give you the added time to be at home while holding a full or part-time job.
Postsecondary English teachers teach in lecture halls, medium-size classrooms and even online. They specialize in literature and writing and often focus on teaching tomorrow’s English teachers, who earn credentials to teach K-6, intermediate-level or high school students. College English teachers frequently serve as role models for English majors who also aspire to become teachers.
Mix one chemistry tutor with one struggling student and what do you get? Success! Tutoring from someone who fits your learning and who knows what your educational needs are can make all the difference in the world for a student. To find that perfect tutor though, you need to create a strategy for your search, rather than just pick someone at random.
Taught Chemistry for six years at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels at Basis. I produced an original curriculum for high achieving students. The material was high school and college level, that I simplified for a much younger student. Prepared students for state and in school high stakes exams. Always tried to make learning fun, because if the students are enjoying themselves they are more eager to learn.

I love to be helpful to people, and I love to help students improve their performance in classes and on tests. I have an excellent track record of strong performances in graded classes and on standardized tests. I am confident that I can help any student take their performance to the next level in any of several academic subject areas, especially math and chemistry, and on standardized tests.... I learn first. That is, I learn a student's learning style and barriers to improved performance. Then, I cater my approach to that learning style and offer ways to overcome those barriers.

I'm only a quarter into this book but felt compelled to put it down and leave a rave review. The book is top notch. So many ebooks nowadays seem to be thrown together to make a buck by someone who you can quickly tell has no actual experience. This book is the opposite of that - it's based on lots of excellent real life experience and it's chock-a-block full of how-tos, excellent resources, advice and more. As has been mentioned, the repeated attempts to sell his courses to the reader are unnecessary - really the author makes the case for his courses without any hard sell so needn't repeat it multiple times. And the formatting of images is wonky on my Kindle with the image overlaying the text in many places. Small quibbles though given the meaty content of this book. I'm bookmarking page after page and am delighted with my purchase. Highly recommended!
It will lead you to less fortunate countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Peru, Honduras or Morocco along with other countries where many people don't speak this important language and the level of English taught at school is rather poor. Teach English abroad as it is where your efforts as an English teaching volunteer are needed most! Indulge in all the amazing aspects these countries have to offer.

High school English classes involve daily lessons geared towards grades 9 through 12 that touch upon a general literature curriculum, or one that focuses on a specific area of the subject, such as Creative Writing or European Literature. English teachers at a secondary school may also teach specialized writing classes, such as Journalism. They also assume positions related to yearbook courses, drama class, public speaking, debate clubs, and running the school newspaper.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics current Occupational Outlook Handbook, the median national annual salary for English language and literature teachers, post secondary is $63,730. Actual salaries may vary greatly based on specialization within the field, location, years of experience and a variety of other factors. National long-term projections of employment growth may not reflect local and/or short-term economic or job conditions, and do not guarantee actual job growth.
During this harsh economic time, searching for jobs can be a very stressful experience. While companies and corporations are laying off a massive amount of individuals and smaller companies are struggling to keep their existing employees, job opportunities have declined massively to the point where people often have no other choice but to stay at home. So, this brings forth the dreaded question, what kind of options do I have during this tough time?
Integrating online technologies into your teaching can be a challenging prospect, and it can be difficult to know how to approach it effectively for the benefit of both students and yourself. No one knows your own content and teaching strengths better than you, and the “one size fits all” formula doesn’t always suit everyone. No matter what type of technology you are interested in exploring or your level of experience, this course will help you draw on your teaching strengths and find the approach that is right for you, your students and your educational context.

Because lawyers are seeking people who match the profile of potential real-life jurors, online jury companies ask detailed questions of applicants. You should never disclose your Social Security number or credit card or banking info. Companies typically pay $10 to $60 to online jurors. Since most online jury companies won’t need a lot of jurors, signing up for multiple companies gives you a better chance of getting picked for “jury duty.”
ESL online teaching jobs come with a flexible schedule and can be either full-time or part-time. So, while you will usually have the freedom to set your own working schedule, it is strongly recommended that you make yourself available for online English lessons during peak times (early morning, evenings and weekends for online ESL teachers based in the United States and Canada) as much as possible in order to maximize your earning potential.
Second, make sure you have prepared yourself mentally and financially. Teaching doesn't pay the big bucks. You want to retire some day so make sure to budget and save as much as possible. Mentally working with children can be tough. Working daily with teens has taught me to have a thick skin. They think with their emotions and have no concept of logic. Always know you are the boss and they will follow your lead. Be kind and don't be afraid to let them know you care.

Familiarizing yourself with the learning management system (LMS)  platform you’re using is the best way to make sure you’re taking advantage of all that online learning has to offer your students. Not only will you reduce mistakes and fumblings in working with the system, you’ll learn ways to save time, add variety to your lessons and get insight that’s just not possible in a traditional classroom. Before Growing Stars, I was getting 80-85% on Algebra II tests. I understood the concepts, but individual problems proved to be a challenge. My first test after starting sessions was an A, and I finished the year with a 96% average in the class. I will be continuing with their tutoring as long as I can, and am confident that they can help me attain the level of academic success I am aiming for.

To narrow the results by subject area, look under the Navigation box in the right-hand column. Scroll down to find the appropriate subject category under Latest Adjunct Job Postings. Also in the right-hand column is a link to the searchable version of the job board. This is particularly useful because not all of the jobs posted on this site are online positions, so you can use "online teaching" and related keywords to narrow down your results.

All professors have office hours, and online instructors are no exception. Make sure you know how to help students reach you. Hosting a Google Hangout at the same time every week? Scheduling phone calls as needed? Staying after class with students who have questions? Find out if your program has a policy, or if it’s OK for you to develop your own system for student check-ins.
The online application process for these jobs—or perhaps “gigs” is the better word, since they're all for independent contractors—is pretty simple and straightforward with very little required of candidates. Some of these opportunities—like the micro-jobs—you could very well apply and start the same day. And these jobs require very little commitment and can typically be done on your own schedule.

While you don’t necessarily need much experience to become a researcher, earning the best pay comes from specializing in an area you have some expertise in. There are different levels of Online Teaching jobs. Many companies employ online tutors to help students from grade school to college understand their school assignments and study for their tests. Tutors are responsible for finding strategies to help improve student understanding, maintaining a regular schedule and communicating with families and administrators. Both colleges and high schools employ online instructors as well. Online high school teachers and professors are tasked with learning or designing curriculum, developing lesson plans, accommodating students with varied learning abilities, tracking and improving student attendance and progress, administering and grading exams, providing academic advice and communicating with students, parents and administrators. Another quickly growing teaching position is the role of a Tes Teacher.
An online tutor must possess at least a bachelor's degree. Tutors are also often asked to pass certain exams to show that they are competent in the subjects they are assigned to tutor. Online high school teachers must have at least a bachelor's degree and a valid teaching credential. Most schools prefer applicants to possess a master's degree. Online professors are typically required to possess a doctorate degree; however, some colleges will hire adjunct professors with master's degrees. Most tutors and teachers must be willing to provide references and submit to a background check.
What It Is: Many companies pay online testers to make sure websites are intuitive and easy to navigate. "You basically follow the instructions you're given to check out the website," says Anna Thurman, founder of RealWaysToEarnMoneyOnline.com, a site that has reviewed more than 500 online work opportunities. "It usually only takes about 15 minutes per test." Thurman recommends registering with 10 to 12 different companies since the opportunities to test these sites are doled out first come, first served. "There are people who make $100 to $200 a month by staying on top of those tests," Thurman says.

Be licensed and certified to teach in their state by fulfilling state-mandated requirements, such as passing specific tests and paying applicable fees. For example, elementary school teachers in Michigan are required to pass the Basic Skills Test: MTTC Professional Readiness Requirement (which consists of three parts in Reading, Math and Writing), as well as the Elementary Education test and any other corresponding subject-area tests.

A two-year college English professor may spend their time offering basic writing courses, business writing courses, or courses for students enrolled in applied degree programs (for example, Writing for Nurses or Writing for Engineers). Professors may also teach entry-level courses to students that enter college with a requirement to pass an introductory course in English, based on previous low-ranking test scores.
Our adjunct faculty are instrumental in ensuring that students are successful in the classroom. This adherence to student success translates to instructors working individually with struggling students by providing them 1:1 support, collaborating with student advising and academic teams, as well as giving course feedback. SNHU instructors are required to respond to student inquiries within 24 hours and be active in the online classroom throughout the week, among other engagement efforts that proactively support students in the classroom.
