You will still need to master several bits of technology, and for those of us who are completely challenged in this area, most of this is somewhat intimidating. A bachelor’s program will be broken down into sections. The first years of your education consists of general education, core English classes, and electives in lower division courses. The next phase will be the same only in upper division work. The final phase will be the teaching program. This portion will consist of pedagogy and your teaching internship. An additional master’s program will typically include core coursework as well as a master’s thesis.


Though we signed on late in the year with her, Jikku jumped in and helped in all aspects. She has empathy and maturity to not weaken a child’s moral, and intelligence to teach well even though she was brought in half way through the year. These positions require tactfulness and diplomacy, with the ability to work on cross-functional teams and offer productive feedback to colleagues and executives at various levels. Strong writing, proofreading and editing skills are also highly valued by employers.

All new applicants to the certificate program who are considering beginning the program with any of the other courses should note the required prerequisites must first be completed. I forgot to also share that I will be starting work with On Point as an Advocacy Coordinator too. It sounds like a great job that helps our fellow Americans keep informed about political issues. On Point is the voice of the average citizens that may have an opinion to share with their politicians but have no way of knowing how to contact them. On Point makes sure those voices get heard. In orientation the trainer said she will be hiring agents again around the middle of June. If you have good writing skills and are a good conversationalist then you may want to check it out. It also seems like if you put forth a little effort, you can make decent wages with them and they do pay weekly. I’m not big into politics but excited about this new venture.

As much as it pains me to write this, my advice is to find a different career. It's not that being a professor is so bad--there are many good things about the job, including a certain amount of flexibility of schedule and the experience of going to work and learning alongside colleagues and students each day--but the job market is just. so. bad. Odds are that you will labor for 6 years to obtain a PhD in English, all the while earning very little money and going into debt, and when you graduate you will be unable to get a tenure-line job--even if you are a gifted teacher, even if you are a talented writer, even if you are a superstar. If you do get a tenure-line job you will find yourself working long hours but earning far less money than do others with advanced degrees, and you will find that the realities of the profession are out of line with what you imagine the profession to be. I once believed that I would have the leisure to think and to write--that's what professors do, right? Not so much. When I was much younger I even imagined that I would spend some time each day sitting under a tree and reading a book. I'm serious! I thought that. My life bears zero resemblance to the fantasy. The ground under the trees is always a little wet, and there's too much of a glare on my laptop to work outside.
In conclusion, English teachers are responsible for building the vocabulary and reading/writing skills of students, and play an important role in the greater scheme of their education. Knowing how to read and write are vital skills to function in society. Those with an interest in teaching English can find employment at any level of education, from introducing elementary school children to their first chapter books to supervising grad students at a university. The minimum requirement to enter the field is a bachelor’s degree, with the highest-paying job options available at the postsecondary level.
A note on tenure: For postsecondary teachers, a significant goal in the traditional academic career is attaining tenure — a guarantee that a professor cannot be fired without just cause. The tenure process can take up to seven years of moving up the ranks in tenure-track positions. The ranks are assistant professor, associate professor, and professor. Tenure is granted through a review of the candidate’s research, contribution to the institution, and teaching abilities. However, institutions are relying more heavily on limited-term and part-time faculty contracts.
