Integrating online technologies into your teaching can be a challenging prospect, and it can be difficult to know how to approach it effectively for the benefit of both students and yourself. No one knows your own content and teaching strengths better than you, and the “one size fits all” formula doesn’t always suit everyone. No matter what type of technology you are interested in exploring or your level of experience, this course will help you draw on your teaching strengths and find the approach that is right for you, your students and your educational context.
On the postsecondary level, fewer universities are offering tenure-track, full-time positions, which translate into professors having better job security and earning higher pay; therefore, competition is strong for such positions. Candidates, who possess more than the minimum qualifications for a job opening, typically have a better chance of getting hired for coveted position. Those seeking part-time or adjunct positions will find more opportunities to work. As a result, a backlog of unemployed or underemployed Ph.Ds. is being seen as an escalating trend within the English teaching community.
There are fewer opportunities to give feedback in an online classroom, so it's a good idea to provide feedback quickly when you can. It’s also a good idea to ask for feedback yourself on how students are doing and what they need more of, and pass that information onto course creators so that necessary changes can be made. It can be hard to anticipate just what the student experience will be like for online learners, so asking for input can go a long way in shaping great experiences for future students.
I have been working with Dr. Carol for over a year in Organic Chemistry, and MCAT chemistry prep. She has been a shining light where there was once darkness. I have struggled with chemistry for a very long time and Dr. Carol helps to reduce the stress of taking a hard subject and build confidence through thorough yet simplistic instruction. She is always on time for appointments and does not mind meeting you wherever you feel most comfortable.
Taught Chemistry for six years at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels at Basis. I produced an original curriculum for high achieving students. The material was high school and college level, that I simplified for a much younger student. Prepared students for state and in school high stakes exams. Always tried to make learning fun, because if the students are enjoying themselves they are more eager to learn.
As faculty, you have the option to incorporate supplementary reading materials in your class such as free online web sources and/or the Shapiro Library. Web based materials and resources can often add richness to your course and are free for the student. This is also a way for you, the adjunct faculty, to personalize your course and incorporate creativity.
