Princeton’s initiative in online education seeks to apply the lessons from decades of empirical research that has consistently established correlations between high student engagement and academic success. How can new online course environments and tools be used to create opportunities for heightening the interaction between faculty and their students in both online and classroom environments? What new forms of evidence do online learning tools produce that can help us study and identify effective strategies for teaching and learning?
The lesson material is uploaded into the online classroom for you, based on what the student is currently studying and his/her parent’s preference. You are able to preview the material prior to the lesson and then can use your own expertise to respond to the student’s individual learning needs to deliver the lesson. No mandatory teaching props or backdrops needed!
ESL online teaching jobs come with a flexible schedule and can be either full-time or part-time. So, while you will usually have the freedom to set your own working schedule, it is strongly recommended that you make yourself available for online English lessons during peak times (early morning, evenings and weekends for online ESL teachers based in the United States and Canada) as much as possible in order to maximize your earning potential.
I am not an English teacher, but I wanted to be. I started college with dreams due to my experience with my high school English teacher. In college, a professor yelled at me for the content in a persuasive essay. It was a composition class. He said my composition was exemplary, but my content would elicit a response that was too emotional for a reader. He gave me a C. I left his office and changed my major to Sociology. Although I love teaching the subject I teach, there is a gaping hole where English content should be. I find myself purposely seeking interaction with my English content area colleagues. I love assigning readings and papers so that I get to grade as an English teacher would. My advice? Do not allow others to dissuade you from being an English teacher. Do not become a professor who devastates the ambition of an aspiring English teacher. I love what I do, but if I had it to do over again, I would have become an English teacher. Teaching is a gift to your students, their families and yourself. Never lose sight of the privilege and honor it is to be welcomed into the lives of those you teach.
Educational technology has adapted quickly, enabling online programs to be better than ever for 21st-century learning. Built-in cameras and microphones in our computers, the ability to quickly and easily watch video, “Web 2.0” structures that allow for discussions and exams — these are all basic technologies that most people have access to, and the best online master’s degree programs should be putting these technologies to use.

The main task of an English teaching volunteer is to connect with the students and provide them with the opportunity to communicate with English speakers. This skill will enable them in their future lives as more opportunities unfold for them. As an English teaching volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteers in teams and will be supported by the project manager or coordinator of the school or organization.
I have been tutoring with Louisiana State University Shreveport for one semester, but have been leading group study sessions since my freshmen year of college. I first encountered the Student Success Center in the fall of 2017 when I attended a Supplemental Instruction Session for Organic Chemistry I. I found the sessions so helpful in allowing me to further understand the difficult concepts of the course through metacognitive intervention that I attended every session after that. The results of attending those sessions reflected in my grades, and I passed the course with an A. Not only did I receive helpful instruction through the Student Success Center, my confidence in my academic ability grew as well. I wanted to offer this same helpfulness and confidence to my peers, so I sought to tutor for the Student Success Center to use the same learning strategies that helped me to help my peers.

Some special needs students can really benefit from online tutoring because it takes place in a familiar setting. It can take a lot of time for some children to open up to a new teacher, and being in an environment they’re already comfortable with can expedite the process. That means some students will find it easier to hit the ground running with their new tutor.
