Hi, my name's Art, I started teaching ESL 34 years ago in Salamanca Spain, then continued part-time while also teaching Spanish as a graduate student at Johns Hopkins University where I received an M.A. in Hispanic Literature in 1988. I left another career about 7 years ago when my Venezuelan wife and I moved back to her home country, and there I also happily returned to my first career of teaching ESL. I began teaching there at the university level at the Universidad Arturo Michelena, but then realized I felt called to tutoring one student at a time. A few days ago, at the urging of the US embassy in Venezuela, my wife and I returned to the USA. The good news for students is that we have 100-122 Mega speed internet so the audio and video are of excellent quality! ---Many of my students were/are preparing for TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, NATO, or Trinity exams etc. so I have experience helping there. I got to module 3 of 5 with the ICAL TEFL institute based in London for certification in TEFL, but then realized that those courses are aimed primarily at classroom teaching methods, and have little relevance to one-on-one tutoring. If you want to know my qualifications, I suggest reading the comments of my students. They are the best judges of tutor quality. If you need help with exam preparation, CV editing, job interviews, pronunciation, presentations, etc. I'd be glad to help. Best of luck to you in your English studies, and remember never get discouraged. The key is hard work, and lots of patience and determination. Cheers!
High school English teachers are responsible for covering more specific and in-depth subjects than their middle school colleagues. In ninth grade, English teachers continue to focus on grammar rules, sentence structure and expository writing techniques. They also introduce students to sophisticated reading materials and more expansive writing assignments, like research papers.
An online tutor must possess at least a bachelor's degree. Tutors are also often asked to pass certain exams to show that they are competent in the subjects they are assigned to tutor. Online high school teachers must have at least a bachelor's degree and a valid teaching credential. Most schools prefer applicants to possess a master's degree. Online professors are typically required to possess a doctorate degree; however, some colleges will hire adjunct professors with master's degrees. Most tutors and teachers must be willing to provide references and submit to a background check.

It might sound obvious, but make sure you bring your textbooks, class notes, assignments, and anything else that will be useful during your sessions. If you don’t have the materials you need, your tutor will not be able to effectively teach you what you need to know. Save time by having them laid out, organized, and ready to go for your session. If your school utilizes a coursework website, send your tutor the link ahead of time (if possible) so they can see exactly what you’re working on for themselves.
I am relatively new to tutoring here at LSUS, but I find it quite enjoyable. Every student is capable of doing well in their classes, but sometimes they just need a little push to understand everything. I am happy to help students realize what they are able to do and show them that they can conquer any course. Students often say they are weak in math or just don't get it, but I say they can solve the problems and so can you.

On the postsecondary level, fewer universities are offering tenure-track, full-time positions, which translate into professors having better job security and earning higher pay; therefore, competition is strong for such positions. Candidates, who possess more than the minimum qualifications for a job opening, typically have a better chance of getting hired for coveted position. Those seeking part-time or adjunct positions will find more opportunities to work. As a result, a backlog of unemployed or underemployed Ph.Ds. is being seen as an escalating trend within the English teaching community.

The joy of knowledge is being able to share it with others. I have had the opertunity to recieve and Bachelor's of science with a major in a zoology and would love to give back by sharing what I have learned. The most rewarding part of teaching a subject is when you see the concepts click with a student and they really understand a subject and enjoy what they are learning. Through out my time in college I participated in weekly student led, tutoring sessions. I was not only tutored by others by I also tutored other students. And in that time I got to experience a wild variety of teaching styles. I also learned how to apply several. Often stud ... View Profile

Private schools are independent of the government as they do not receive federal funding. Unlike public schools, tuition is required for a student to attend a private school. Private schools are run by their own school boards or organizations. For that reason, private schools are able to create their own standards for students and teachers. Although many private school teachers are not required to hold state certification, many schools insist they do.
