It might sound obvious, but make sure you bring your textbooks, class notes, assignments, and anything else that will be useful during your sessions. If you don’t have the materials you need, your tutor will not be able to effectively teach you what you need to know. Save time by having them laid out, organized, and ready to go for your session. If your school utilizes a coursework website, send your tutor the link ahead of time (if possible) so they can see exactly what you’re working on for themselves.

I started out simply attending SI for BIOS 110 as a freshman and loved it so much that I used it for as many courses as I could afterward!  These also included my general Chemistry courses, CHEM 121 and CHEM 124.  I started working at the Student Success Center as a tutor and SI instructor last summer.  After almost a year of working, I have led SI sessions for BIOS 101, 110, and 120, and I have held study sessions for CHEM 124.  Having gone through these courses myself and attended SI for my own benefit, I strongly encourage all to take advantage of the Student Success Center's services.
A two-year college English professor may spend their time offering basic writing courses, business writing courses, or courses for students enrolled in applied degree programs (for example, Writing for Nurses or Writing for Engineers). A note on tenure: For postsecondary teachers, a significant goal in the traditional academic career is attaining tenure — a guarantee that a professor cannot be fired without just cause. The tenure process can take up to seven years of moving up the ranks in tenure-track positions. The ranks are assistant professor, associate professor, and professor. Tenure is granted through a review of the candidate’s research, contribution to the institution, and teaching abilities. However, institutions are relying more heavily on limited-term and part-time faculty contracts.
If you have any type of education background, formal or informal, and a Bachelor's degree, you can teach English to Chinese kids on VIPKid. Actual salaries may vary greatly based on specialization within the field, location, years of experience and a variety of other factors. National long-term projections of employment growth may not reflect local and/or short-term economic or job conditions, and do not guarantee actual job growth.
The employment outlook for middle school teachers appears stable in certain regions, and the overall demand for teachers is stronger than many other professions. In some expanding U.S. regions, such as the Southeast, Southwest and West, job growth for middle school teachers is relatively strong. Overall, the BLS estimates a 12 percent growth rate for middle school teachers through 2022.
A word of caution: Remember that where very little is required, very little is offered. These jobs don’t pay much, and they are not going to provide a reference for your resume. It may take working at several different of these online jobs to pull in the income you want. And as always, know the signs of a work-at-home scam as you sort through the opportunities.
Do not expect your students to be English majors. Understand that they don't all share the love of reading and writing and all things literary. If you understand that; if you meet them where THEY are (not where you expect or want them to be); if you are flexible with your time and your resources; and if the curriculum is not always the stuff the kids NEED to know, you'll be just fine. Also, keep granola bars in your desk drawer for the kids who didn't get breakfast (or for when you forget your lunch on the kitchen counter), let students stand up and move around a lot - literature is really, really boring for some (I know, weird, right?), and even honors students can try your patience daily.

I forgot to also share that I will be starting work with On Point as an Advocacy Coordinator too. It sounds like a great job that helps our fellow Americans keep informed about political issues. On Point is the voice of the average citizens that may have an opinion to share with their politicians but have no way of knowing how to contact them. On Point makes sure those voices get heard. In orientation the trainer said she will be hiring agents again around the middle of June. If you have good writing skills and are a good conversationalist then you may want to check it out. It also seems like if you put forth a little effort, you can make decent wages with them and they do pay weekly. I’m not big into politics but excited about this new venture.
Gain licensure to teach. Obtaining a state-issued teaching license or certificate is a requirement for accepting a teaching position at a public school. Every state has requirements that teachers must meet in order to become licensed. Tutors want to teach in a way their students best understand, so it’s important that you not be passive during your sessions. If your tutor’s style isn’t working for you, speak up and say so. If certain activities make it hard for you to stay focused, let your tutor know so you can try a different format in a future lesson. Your tutor can’t make changes if you don’t voice your concerns.
