I just wanted to let you know that I have been hired by Maritz (Thank you Annie) and working with them for almost 30 days now (perfect attendance gets you a $.25 raise after 30 days too). The company has us calling customers from different businesses (banks, insurance co. etc..) and asking them to please complete a survey of how their customer service experience was between 1 (poor) and 10 (excellent). The time commitment for instructors varies, as new faculty come to the course with varying levels of familiarity using learning management systems (such as D2L’s Brightspace, Blackboard, Canvas or Moodle) and varying levels of classroom experience. Most trainees report that they spend between 7-12 hours per week on the course. This training is required for all new SNHU online adjunct faculty and is paid. New faculty training must be successfully completed before adjunct faculty are eligible to teach online courses with SNHU.

It doesn’t take much for equipment to get started. Your home computer must be able to play audio files and most companies use transcription software that is available for free. Having a good set of computer headphones will help you better hear your audio files. Some positions additionally recommend a foot pedal which can help increase your production, but this can usually come later.
All professors have office hours, and online instructors are no exception. Make sure you know how to help students reach you. Hosting a Google Hangout at the same time every week? Scheduling phone calls as needed? Staying after class with students who have questions? Find out if your program has a policy, or if it’s OK for you to develop your own system for student check-ins.

I am relatively new to tutoring here at LSUS, but I find it quite enjoyable. Every student is capable of doing well in their classes, but sometimes they just need a little push to understand everything.
