My students do well! I am a chemical engineer. I know math and science well. I have tutored students after work for 12 years. I know students well. I work with a student to find the knowledge holes that cause problems. I explain the missing concept and then explain it again from a second angle. I work through the problem with the student and watch him do it again. When we find and correct holes in the student's knowledge base, he is caught up and ready to excel in his class. These are terrific opportunities to enhance one’s understanding of English language arts concepts while meeting like-minded professionals and improving a resume, LinkedIn page or other professional social media profile.

The main task of an English teaching volunteer is to connect with the students and provide them with the opportunity to communicate with English speakers. This skill will enable them in their future lives as more opportunities unfold for them. As an English teaching volunteer, you will work alongside other volunteers in teams and will be supported by the project manager or coordinator of the school or organization.
If you only love your content, and not kids, DON'T do it. Frequently English majors love literature, or grammar, or writing, but they aren't passionate about helping kids. Don't let your NEED to cover content outweigh the real work of helping kids. Be prepared to feel tired and under appreciated, but know that one day, the least likely kid will come back and tell you that you are the reason they made it. That is why you teach.
Many times, both parents come home from a full day of work and then need to juggle the responsibilities of managing their children, participating in social events, attending athletic practices and much more. It’s also possible that one or both parents did not take advanced math in school. So, whether the curriculum has changed or there simply aren’t enough hours in the day, parents can find it difficult to give their children the help they need to excel in math.
