It can be a fun and friendly competition to get people excited about your book. And there’s no better platform than Social Media sites to do just that. You can call it the “Know my Book?” photo contest. All participants need to do, is to take a creative photo with the words “Know my Book?” or “Help Me Launch.” The three best images might receive the book or you can offer an additional first prize for a Kindle or a digital camera.

Lastly, it's worth noting that Smashwords provides free ISBNs. I'm not going to get into a full on discussion of ISBN, which is "a unique identifier" associated with your e-book, but most companies provide a free ISBN for your e-book or roll the price up into a package. Smashwords has a good quick guide to e-book ISBNs that you should take a look at.
It’s too expensive. At $36, it offers great value given all the stuff I packed into it, but people are used to paying less for ebooks. Even worse, by blowing out all my info in one book, I had no followup book to upsell the writers who bought the first book. I wasn’t creating a sales machine, like you want. I just had a one-off product. Again, I probably would have done better publishing a smaller ebook at a lower price.
I published my ebook . Write Like You Talk–Only Better, through both Kindle and Smashwords, because I wanted to make sure it was easy to download for all e-readers. They convert to all formats and distribute at no charge, though they do take a slice of the revenues, like Amazon does. I was also be offer free downloads, which are resulting in more reviews.
3) I don’t know if its underestimated — I personally felt that as a blogger going the eBook route was just expanding and being more diverse with my writing, as well as adapting to the change in the online world. Also, many people have different motives to write. But, it is still very fairly new. I realized that PDF and newsletter subscription was a great way to sponsor and to attract subscribers, but for some reason I feel strongly about Kindle eBooks and reading apps readily available on multiple platforms (cellphone, tablet, etc.). I’m thinking we’re going to be seeing a lot of bloggers self-publishing their eBooks; however, the increase in the number of published eBooks has been consistently rising, so the power of free and the power of $0.99 cents will eventually have a new meaning (in my opinion).

Vintage Cookbooks includes in their collection of vintage cookbooks a collection of vintage cookbooks from the late 1800s to 1950s for children.  These will popup in an online reader, but if you look on the upper left of the reader, there is a link to OPen Library where the book may be downloaded in a wide variety of ebook formats.  No registration needed.
Smashwords offers a free style guide for formatting your e-book. Although Smashwords encourages authors to keep things simple, you can still create a professional-quality e-book with Smashwords that includes a linked table of contents, NCX navigation, and custom paragraph styling. A couple of years ago, I created an acceptable-looking e-book in about 30 minutes after making some tweaks (usually they involve spacing between chapter breaks) and reprocessing my file three times. If you follow Smashwords' guidelines, you can end up with a professional-quality "reflowable" e-book that looks as good as what many of the big publishers are putting out and reads well on any screen size.
Lulu offers four levels of e-book creation and distribution services, ranging from a free do-it-yourself version to the $219 Amplifier, which includes one paperback copy of your book and the option for print distribution to Amazon and BN.com. Lulu offers e-book distribution in the Lulu store, B&N’s Nook bookstore, and Apple’s iBookstore. It does not currently offer distribution to Amazon. Royalties are “90% of the revenue from sales of your e-book” less the commission from sales through B&N and Apple. If a document has images, tables, and footnotes the company recommends contacting Lulu customer support to find out about its “premium” package. E-books take from one to two weeks to be reviewed, approved, and uploaded to the author’s Lulu account for distribution, which makes the wait period a bit longer than other options. Any revision to the text after initial publication requires initiating a new “creation process.” If you haven’t opted for the free DIY service, you are required to purchase a new package in order to make your changes.
Did you know that e-book sales are projected to account for about a quarter of global book sales by 2018? This is because there has been a shift from a print to digital industry in some media and educational platforms. Consumer e-books are forecast to generate a revenue of 20 billion US dollars by 2018 according to statistics. This can be attributed to the significant increase of e-books sold in the United States from approximately 69 million copies in 2010 to 266 million copies in 2017. According to WrittenWord Media, 2018 is the year of indie authors for they will continue to produce affordable and high-quality e-books and price their books below the market of traditional publishers, who tend to focus on their go-to franchises. Nevertheless, both traditional and indie writers will have so much in store for all the bookworms out there. 
Very timely post — I’m in the brainstorming phase of re-formatting a lot of my online course content into a Kindle format and love your idea of creating a suite of comprehensive learning products. I do wonder about Sean’s prediction and how it translates to laying on your belly reading a book on the beach–I’ll take sand in my pages over my Kindle any day.
You have about three months to promote a new print book (paper back or hardcover) before the bookstores clear their shelves for the next bestseller. But if you can rack up enough pre-orders BEFORE the pub date, then you can kickstart your book launch. Once it hits the New York Times or other lists, then a couple of weeks on those lists become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Again: the more time you give your book to be listed on Amazon and other online retailers BEFORE your publication date, the better.
