An authorpreneur is an author – traditionally or self-published – who adapts the savvy ways of an entrepreneur in order to build a business and grow multiple revenue streams around their book. In this guest post, Dave has asked me to share with you guys how I’ve managed to build a business around my debut novel Umbilicus, which I self-published in 2016.

No related Webinars or classes. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about writers, it’s that you love free stuff. You also love live trainings, where you can get your personal questions answered by experts. I found there is much more interest in my one-on-one coaching and my classes than I ever saw from the ebook, because the ebook wasn’t presented as part of a suite of comprehensive learning help. (Look for me to create ebooks from some of my courses and Den bootcamps in the future to rectify this problem.)
Disadvantage: Because almost anyone can make an ebook, it can be difficult to distinguish yourself from "almost anyone." To make your book equivalent to a "real" book (i.e., print), find and evaluate several digital book publishers before making a deal. A flashy website does not guarantee a great publisher. Look at the publisher's ebooks to see if yours fits in with that mix. Would you buy one of their books? Check the terms of any agreement you must sign to make sure you retain the rights that you should.
These platforms have been developed to remove the complexities of traditional publishing with a wide range of tools, and give you places to publish your business ebook. Depending on the service provider, you can access everything from publishing to design, marketing, sales as well as insights and tutorials on how to publish an eBook. And you can make this happen without a huge investment.
It’s too expensive. At $36, it offers great value given all the stuff I packed into it, but people are used to paying less for ebooks. Even worse, by blowing out all my info in one book, I had no followup book to upsell the writers who bought the first book. I wasn’t creating a sales machine, like you want. I just had a one-off product. Again, I probably would have done better publishing a smaller ebook at a lower price.
eBooks are also the fastest way to self-publish your book worldwide, making it easy for millions of readers to find, buy, and enjoy your book online on retail sites like Amazon’s Kindle Store, Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Store, Apple Books, Google Play Books, and many more. With eBooks, readers can take hundreds, even thousands of books on the go, and all on one device.

Announce the event or book sales campaign on Google+ and also on Goodreads at least three weeks before the date. They both offer a free event function. A site that is very easy and fast to set up. Promote this event (can be real life or virtual) heavily on FB, Twitter, Pinterest, Google, your blog and to your email list. And if your local newspaper, neighborhood paper etc. has an event page, or if they have an online version, get your event in! Search the internet for events/websites in your area and announce it there too.

Pricing: Some services have limits on how to price your book. For instance, Amazon doesn’t allow authors to offer their books for free, and both Amazon and Kobo offer different royalties in different price ranges. This may not be a bad thing (after all, they know the pricing “sweet spots”), but you want to avoid getting stuck in a situation where you don’t like the price and can do nothing about it. Finding the right price for your ebook is not easy; choose a platform where you can experiment before committing.

Verify your publishing territories. If you are self-publishing and you hold all the rights, you just click, “Worldwide.” If you are already traditionally published, you may own rights in other territories. For example, say you published with a publisher in the US and sold only the US rights, you could self-publish in the UK or Australia or any other country. You can select individual territories and deselect the ones that you have sold to someone else.
Becky, the post image is a promo graphic put out by Amazon to advertise the Kindle Touch, not an image from the Amazon page for the The Paris Wife (which you can see is completely different). They chose to feature Paula McLain’s book on the device. We’re just using their supplied media graphic. Sorry for the confusion, but I’m not sure this is much of an issue that requires correction.
Another free option is Any Ebook Converter. It supports EPUB, MOBI, AZW, PDF, and TXT files and allows you to edit a book’s metadata. Interestingly, the tool will also remove the DRM from any ebook automatically. Calibre can remove DRM from ebooks How to Remove the DRM on Every Ebook You Own How to Remove the DRM on Every Ebook You Own No one likes DRM. We all understand why it exists, but that doesn't mean we're ready to embrace it. Therefore, this article explains how to remove the DRM from every eBook you own. One thing, though, I’m not sure how good their formatting service is and it doesn’t look like you can proof read your eBook on a reader device (I proof all my eBooks on my Kindle prior to sending them to BookBaby), so it’s kind of a shot in the dark if you don’t have a level of quality control there. I’ve seen people hire professional eBook programmers and due to a lack of quality control they ended up with a whole section of their book poorly formatted and nearly unreadable.

You just need to create an outline for the book to follow, set a schedule for when you’re going to write (if it’s original work) or when you’re going to work on it, how you will market the book and when each task needs to be done, and set a goal publication date when it will be offered on sale. It’s a matter of setting aside time each day. You can’t just work on this when you “feel” like it… otherwise, it’ll never get done.
Not your typical eBook marketplace, Slicebooks offers a platform for you to essentially sell sections of your eBooks or other content. So if your business books have some helpful chapters or snippets, you can use this platform to repurpose and sell just those parts for people who may not be interested in an entire eBook. Pricing starts at $9 per month.
Very few torrenting sites survive the storm brought about by copyright infringement authorities, and The Pirate Bay (aka TPB) is one of them. In spite of being closed down multiple times, the site still continues to operate in full swing. You’ll find a massive range of e-Books in its database, ranging across a wide array of genres such as contemporary, fantasy, sci-fi, non-fiction, travel guides, etc. Note that in some regions TPB has been blocked so you can use a proxy site to get access to the content. Once you’re on the site, simply key in whichever e-Book you wish to download, and voila! You can look for The Pirate Bay proxy sites on this webpage.

Verify your publishing rights. Public domain books are out of copyright. So, say you wanted to publish Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, you could publish it but it's likely that one of the official versions would sell better and it's available for free everywhere anyway. For your own books, select “This is not a public domain work and I hold the necessary publishing rights.”

When converting MOBI files, it is not to simply convert all the MOBI content to PDF images, but to adjust all the elements to the corresponding structure of PDF, therefore, the converted file will have better displaying effect and supports real-time editing and modification. After the MOBI format is converted to PDF, you can transfer the ebook to other device to read easily.
ChildrensBooksForever has a nice collection of books in pdf.  Additional comments from Cathy of  PuzzlEd  "I checked out ChildrensBooksForever and the books are just delightful! Gorgeous pictures and some good themes for primary-school kids (anger, bullying etc). Over 20 books available to download and use on computer, Smartboards etc, as well as viewing online (and in quite a variety of languages, too, apparently). Excellent for school or home use."
From my experience of publishing two fiction books on kindle, actually writing them and publishing them was the easy part. Trying to publicise your work, get sales and push your books up the rankings is a very hard slog. Perhaps it may become easier the more books you publish because then it becomes a numbers game like having more chance of winning a prize the more entry tickets you buy.
"Planet eBook is great if you are looking for free eBooks that are in the genre of classic literature. Books like "The Great Gatsby" and "A Tale of Two Cities". This website makes it easy to find and download these titles. There are 80+ titles available which is decent but nowhere near what Amazon has to offer in this category. I personally have found it easier to just use Amazon with my Kindle for free classic literature titles."
Great post, and I’m glad I read it because I have a lot of ideas and have one book written (for teens), but I wasn’t sure if I should turn it into an eBook or keep it as a ‘full blown’ non-fiction book. Of course, I could self-publish it and write eBooks based on the material, develop webinars/teleseminars, speak with teens/parents/professionals who work with teens, etc. Hmm…I have a lot of thinking to do. It’s time I get off my butt and get my products out there. 🙂
Working with ebook distribution services usually means giving up a percentage of your profits to the distributor, in exchange for the centralized administration and management of all your titles. Some ebook distributors can also reach outlets you can’t on your own, such as the library market, and may offer you helpful tools to optimize book sales and marketing.
Well, now that you know what are the supported eBook file types for your device as well as how to donload them safely without making any online fuss. Here is something that you would be thrilled to get hold of. Yes! The list of best torrent sites for eBooks. Scroll down, browse through them and relish the amazing feeling called online reading (or offline may be). But, who cares when there is your favorite book right on your fingertips?
This website, no doubt, is known to have one the most user-friendly interfaces as well as visual designs in the list of the torrent sites for e-books. Categorized into a wide range of divisions like Genres, Book Titles, Language, Authors, Popular, etc, this website is known to host nearly 50,000 free titles of e-books. And if you yourself are an author, you can surely make use of this website to promote your work.

Amazon has an abundance of lists, such as Top Rated lists, Bestsellers List, Hot New Release list, Gift Idea lists, Top-100 lists for each category, “If you like this you may …” lists, “So you want to” lists and Top Rated Author Lists. When someone downloads your book (for free or paid), it moves up the charts. A lot more people will see it then, compared to before your free days.  Being more visible when the book is reverted back to a paid download, means more people can find it, and will results in more sales.  When people download your book, it starts appearing in the “People who bought this book also bought..” and “Recommended for you” sections, even more increasing visibility.
